This course is comprised of 4 units. You must complete all assignments in each unit before progressing to the next unit. The hours listed are the approximate times it will take you to complete each unit. Your final assessment will include both an examination, featuring short questions on Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Orwell's Animal Farm, Persuasive Writing, Literary Techniques, Propaganda Techniques in Advertising and Poetry, and a culminating project: a comparison essay discussing themes in Animal Farm and a novel of your choosing from the suggested reading list.
This course is designed to extend the range of oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that you need for success in your secondary school academic programs and in your daily life. You will analyze literary texts from contemporary and historical periods, interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts, and create written and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on the selective use of strategies that contribute to effective communication.
Your teacher will contact you to discuss your work output and writing development as the term progresses. Please contact your instructor with any questions.
